    The Vehicle Damage Mechanical, Electrical and Trim (MET) Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship is designed for individuals who want to specialise in the repair and replacement of mechanical and electrical components on vehicles that have been involved in accidents. This programme prepares you to work in bodyshops and accident repair centres, ensuring vehicles are restored to manufacturer standards.

    As an apprentice, you’ll be employed in the automotive repair industry while receiving structured training at 91Ö±²¥. The course typically lasts 36 months and equips you with the technical knowledge and practical skills to safely remove, repair, and refit vehicle systems and components

  • What you'll learn

    You’ll learn how to assess, remove, and refit damaged mechanical, electrical, and trim components, including engines, gearboxes, suspension systems, and safety-critical features such as airbags and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). You’ll also gain experience in vehicle diagnostics, interpreting technical data, and using specialist tools and equipment.

    The course covers:

    Vehicle diagnostics and fault-finding
    Electrical and mechanical system repairs
    Handling of high-voltage and hybrid systems
    Use of diagnostic and calibration tools
    Health and safety in the bodyshop environment
    Customer service and quality control
    You’ll also be trained in refrigerant handling in line with EC842/2006 regulations
  • Entry requirements

    There are no formal qualifications needed to start the Vehicle Damage MET Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship—just a strong interest in automotive repair and a commitment to learning. This programme is ideal for individuals who have completed a Level 2 qualification or have relevant workshop experience.

    However, some employers may set their own entry requirements. If you have not yet achieved a GCSE Grade 4/C (or equivalent) in English and Maths, you will be required to complete Functional Skills Level 2 in these subjects as part of your apprenticeship. Don’t worry—91Ö±²¥ will support you throughout your training
  • How will I be assessed?

    You’ll be assessed throughout the apprenticeship through practical observations, written assignments, and a portfolio of evidence. Your college tutor and employer will help you track your progress and prepare for your final assessment.

    At the end of the programme, you’ll complete an End Point Assessment (EPA), which includes:

    A practical skills assessment
    A professional discussion
    A review of your portfolio
    These assessments confirm your competence and readiness to work independently as a qualified MET Technician

    If you’re interested in this apprenticeship, the first step is to register your interest with 91Ö±²¥. This will add you to our mailing list so we can keep you informed about any upcoming apprenticeship vacancies or employer opportunities in your chosen field.

    To begin the apprenticeship, you’ll need to secure employment with an organisation willing to support you as an apprentice. While it is your responsibility to find and apply for suitable roles, 91Ö±²¥ is here to help. We have a dedicated Job Shop located within the college, where you can meet with an Employer Engagement Advisor for tailored support and advice on how to apply for vacancies and prepare for interviews.

  • Future opportunities

    After completing this apprenticeship, you’ll be qualified to work as a MET Technician, Bodyshop Technician, or Vehicle Damage Assessor. You may also choose to specialise in electric vehicles, ADAS calibration, or progress to a supervisory or technical training role.

    This apprenticeship provides a strong foundation for a long-term career in the automotive repair industry.
