The Civil Engineering Senior Technician Level 4 Apprenticeship is designed for individuals who are ready to take the next step in their civil engineering career. This programme equips you with advanced technical knowledge and practical experience to support the design, development, and delivery of complex infrastructure projects.

As an apprentice, you’ll be employed while you train, gaining valuable experience in the workplace alongside structured learning at 91Ö±²¥.

You’ll develop a deeper understanding of civil engineering principles, including structural design, geotechnics, hydraulics, and construction methods. You’ll also learn how to manage data, use industry-standard software such as CAD and BIM, and contribute to project planning, budgeting, and quality assurance.

In addition to technical skills, you’ll strengthen your communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities—key qualities for working in multidisciplinary teams and supporting engineers and project managers.

You will need GCSEs in English and Maths at grade C (or 4) or above, as well as a Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject to begin the Civil Engineering Senior Technician Level 4 Apprenticeship. This programme is ideal for individuals who are analytical, detail-oriented, and ready to take on more responsibility in the civil engineering sector.

You’ll be assessed throughout the apprenticeship through a combination of practical observations, written assignments, and a portfolio of evidence. Your college tutor and employer will support you in developing your skills and tracking your progress.

At the end of the programme, you’ll complete an End Point Assessment (EPA). This includes a professional discussion, a review of your portfolio, and a work-based project to demonstrate your competence and readiness to work independently as a senior technician.

To begin the apprenticeship, you’ll need to secure employment with an organisation willing to support you as an apprentice. While it is your responsibility to find and apply for suitable roles, 91Ö±²¥ is here to help. We have a dedicated Job Shop located within the college, where you can meet with an Employer Engagement Advisor for tailored support and advice on how to apply for vacancies and prepare for interviews.

After completing this apprenticeship, you could progress into roles such as Civil Engineering Senior Technician, Site Supervisor, or Design Technician. You may also choose to continue your studies with a higher-level apprenticeship or a degree in civil engineering or construction management.

This apprenticeship provides a strong foundation for a long-term career in the engineering and infrastructure sectors, with opportunities to gain professional recognition through institutions such as the ICE (Institution of Civil Engineers).
