    The Engineering Manufacturing Technician Level 4 Apprenticeship is designed for individuals who want to develop advanced technical skills and play a key role in supporting engineering and manufacturing operations. This programme is ideal for those working in sectors such as aerospace, automotive, marine, defence, and advanced manufacturing.

    As an apprentice, you’ll be employed while you train, gaining hands-on experience in the workplace alongside structured learning at 91Ö±²¥. The course typically lasts around 42 months and prepares you to work independently or as part of a technical team, supporting the development, production, and improvement of products and processes.

  • What you'll learn

    You’ll gain in-depth knowledge of engineering principles, manufacturing methods, quality systems, and lean techniques such as Six Sigma and Kaizen. You’ll also learn how to analyse data, solve complex problems, and produce technical documentation to support engineering decisions.

    Depending on your specialism—mechanical or electrical/electronic—you’ll study modules such as engineering design, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, digital principles, and electronic circuits. You’ll also develop skills in project management, compliance, and continuous improvement, preparing you for a wide range of technical roles.
  • Entry requirements

    There are no formal qualifications needed to start the Engineering Manufacturing Technician Level 4 Apprenticeship—just a strong interest in engineering and a desire to develop advanced technical skills. This programme is ideal for individuals who have completed a Level 3 apprenticeship or hold a relevant Level 3 qualification in engineering.

    However, some employers may set their own entry requirements, such as five GCSEs at Grade 4/5 or above, including Maths, English, and a science or technology-related subject. If you have not yet achieved a GCSE Grade 4/C (or equivalent) in English and Maths, you will be required to complete Functional Skills Level 2 in these subjects as part of your apprenticeship. Don’t worry—91Ö±²¥ will support you throughout your training.
  • How will I be assessed?

    You’ll be assessed throughout the apprenticeship through practical tasks, written assignments, and a portfolio of evidence. Your college tutor and employer will support your progress and help you prepare for the final assessment.

    At the end of the programme, you’ll complete an End Point Assessment (EPA), which includes:

    Observation with questioning in your workplace
    Professional discussion supported by your portfolio
    Your performance in the EPA will determine your final grade: Pass or Distinction

    If you’re interested in this apprenticeship, the first step is to register your interest with 91Ö±²¥. This will add you to our mailing list so we can keep you informed about any upcoming apprenticeship vacancies or employer opportunities in your chosen field.

    To begin the apprenticeship, you’ll need to secure employment with an organisation willing to support you as an apprentice. While it is your responsibility to find and apply for suitable roles, 91Ö±²¥ is here to help. We have a dedicated Job Shop located within the college, where you can meet with an Employer Engagement Advisor for tailored support and advice on how to apply for vacancies and prepare for interviews.

  • Future opportunities

    After completing this apprenticeship, you could progress into roles such as Manufacturing Engineer, Quality Engineer, Process Engineer, or Production Support Engineer. You may also choose to continue your studies with a higher-level apprenticeship or a degree in engineering or manufacturing.

    This qualification provides a strong foundation for a long-term career in advanced manufacturing and engineering, with opportunities to specialise or move into leadership roles.
