The Construction Design and Build Technician Level 4 Apprenticeship is ideal for individuals looking to develop a career in the technical and design aspects of construction. This programme prepares you to support the management and coordination of construction projects from concept to completion, working closely with architects, engineers, and contractors.

As an apprentice, you’ll be employed while you train, gaining valuable experience in the workplace alongside structured learning at 91Ö±²¥.

You’ll learn how to interpret technical drawings, use digital modelling tools such as CAD and BIM, and assist in the preparation of design proposals and construction documentation. The course also covers project management, sustainability, health and safety, and building regulations.

In addition to technical knowledge, you’ll develop strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills—essential for working effectively in multidisciplinary construction teams and supporting project delivery.

There are no formal qualifications needed to start the Construction Design and Build Technician Level 4 Apprenticeship—just a strong interest in construction, design, and project coordination. This programme is ideal for individuals who are detail-oriented, organised, and eager to work in a technical role within the built environment.

However, some employers may set their own entry requirements, such as specific GCSEs, A-levels, or a relevant Level 3 qualification. If you have not yet achieved a GCSE Grade 4/C (or equivalent) in English and Maths, you will be required to complete Functional Skills Level 2 in these subjects as part of your apprenticeship. Don’t worry—support will be provided to help you achieve these essential qualifications alongside your technical training.

You’ll be assessed throughout the apprenticeship through a combination of practical tasks, written assignments, and a portfolio of evidence. Your college tutor and employer will support you in developing your skills and tracking your progress.

At the end of the programme, you’ll complete an End Point Assessment (EPA). This includes a work-based project, a professional discussion, and a review of your portfolio to demonstrate your competence and readiness to work independently as a construction design and build technician.

To begin the apprenticeship, you’ll need to secure employment with an organisation willing to support you as an apprentice. While it is your responsibility to find and apply for suitable roles, 91Ö±²¥ is here to help. We have a dedicated Job Shop located within the college, where you can meet with an Employer Engagement Advisor for tailored support and advice on how to apply for vacancies and prepare for interviews.

After completing this apprenticeship, you could progress into roles such as Design Technician, Architectural Technician, or Construction Project Coordinator. You may also choose to continue your studies with a higher-level apprenticeship or a degree in construction, architecture, or civil engineering.

This apprenticeship provides a strong foundation for a long-term career in the construction and built environment sector, with opportunities to specialise and gain professional recognition through institutions such as the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
