  • What you'll learn

    more less
You’ll learn how to measure, cut, and assemble wood and other materials to create structures such as doors, windows, staircases, and frameworks. The course also covers health and safety, interpreting technical drawings, using hand and power tools, and working to industry standards.

In addition to technical skills, you’ll develop teamwork, problem-solving, and communication abilities—essential for working effectively on construction sites or in joinery workshops.
  • Entry requirements

    more less
There are no formal qualifications needed to start the Carpentry and Joinery Level 2 Apprenticeship—just a strong interest in construction and a willingness to learn. This programme is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with their hands, have good attention to detail, and are keen to develop a skilled trade.

However, some employers may set their own entry requirements, such as specific GCSE grades or prior experience in construction-related activities. If you have not yet achieved a GCSE Grade 3/D or E (or equivalent) in English and Maths, you will be required to complete Functional Skills Level 1 in these subjects as part of your apprenticeship. Don’t worry—support will be provided to help you achieve these essential qualifications alongside your training.
  • How will I be assessed?

    more less
You’ll be assessed throughout the apprenticeship through practical observations, written assignments, and a portfolio of evidence. Your college tutor and employer will support you in developing your skills and tracking your progress.

At the end of the programme, you’ll complete an End Point Assessment (EPA). This includes a practical skills test, a professional discussion, and a review of your portfolio to demonstrate your competence and readiness to work independently in your chosen carpentry or joinery role.
