    The Barbering Professional Level 2 Apprenticeship is perfect for individuals who are passionate about men’s grooming and want to start a career in barbering. This hands-on programme equips you with the practical skills and industry knowledge needed to work confidently in a barbershop environment.

    As an apprentice, you’ll be employed while you train, allowing you to earn a wage and gain real-world experience.

  • What you'll learn

    You’ll learn how to carry out a range of barbering services including shampooing, cutting, styling, beard trimming, and shaving. The course also covers consultation techniques, health and safety, customer service, and how to promote products and services.

    In addition to technical skills, you’ll develop confidence, creativity, and professionalism—qualities that are essential for building a successful career in the barbering industry.
  • Entry requirements

    There are no formal qualifications needed to start the Barbering Professional Level 2 Apprenticeship—just a genuine interest in barbering and a willingness to learn. This programme is ideal for individuals who are creative, enjoy working with people, and are passionate about developing practical skills in a fast-paced environment.

    However, if you have not yet achieved a GCSE Grade 3/D or E (or equivalent) in English and Maths, you will be required to complete Functional Skills Level 1 in these subjects as part of your apprenticeship. Don’t worry—support will be provided to help you achieve these essential qualifications alongside your barbering training.
  • How will I be assessed?

    ou’ll be assessed throughout the apprenticeship through practical observations, assignments, and a portfolio of your work. Your tutor and employer will support you in developing your skills and tracking your progress.

    At the end of the programme, you’ll complete an End Point Assessment (EPA). This includes a practical assessment of your barbering skills, a professional discussion, and a review of your portfolio to demonstrate your competence and readiness to work independently.

    If you’re interested in this apprenticeship, the first step is to register your interest with 91Ö±²¥. This will add you to our mailing list so we can keep you informed about any upcoming apprenticeship vacancies or employer opportunities in your chosen field.

    To begin the apprenticeship, you’ll need to secure employment with an organisation willing to support you as an apprentice. While it is your responsibility to find and apply for suitable roles, 91Ö±²¥ is here to help. We have a dedicated Job Shop located within the college, where you can meet with an Employer Engagement Advisor for tailored support and advice on how to apply for vacancies and prepare for interviews.

  • Future opportunities

    Once qualified, you could progress into roles such as Senior Barber, Salon Supervisor, or even open your own barbershop. You may also choose to specialise in areas such as creative styling, shaving, or men’s grooming.

    This apprenticeship provides a strong foundation for a long-term career in the hair and beauty industry, with opportunities for further training and development.
